Tallahassee Area Mensa a local chapter of the High IQ Society, American Mensa. The Tallahassee
area serves Florida from the Apalachicola River east through Taylor County including part of
Madison County and even a bit of Dixie County. Our area is also the only area in all of Florida,
Region 10 of American Mensa, to include a portion of Georgia. For a full view of the area we

Interested in joining Mensa? The only qualification for membership is a score at or above the
98th percentile on an approved IQ test. There are two different ways you can join. One is by
submitting evidence of scores from any of a number of approved intelligence tests that you have
already taken, or you can take the Mensa Admission Test. For more information about qualifying

Robin's Roost - rest your feathers!
September was insanely full and busy. We made the trip to Gainesville where I saw the orthopedic surgeon, who I liked very much. Rather than rushing directly into surgery, after examining my ankle and finding everywhere she touched and poked to be intensely painful, she decided I should go through some physical therapy first. She wrote a long list of modalities she wanted them to do on my ankle, which limited where I could go because not every clinic offers them all. I finally found a location that does offer them all, naturally it is out of my insurance network, so I'll be paying a small fortune out of pocket. But the therapist is very nice and took my teasing him about being a sadist with good humor. After I do 4 weeks of physical therapy twice a week, I will return to Shands for another evaluation and determine if surgery is needed.
Ray was never contacted by either GI place about the upper GI that was ordered after his bout in the hospital in July and after much wrangling we found no referral had been made. It took some time to get that straightened out, but now things are getting scheduled.
One of my nephews in Michigan went to the ER with extreme abdominal pain and they misdiagnosed it and sent him home with medicine. The next day his appendix burst, and he was rushed to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor where they opened him up and found the burst appendix had wrapped around his intestines causing a complete blockage and he was full of infection. The surgeon said this is a very rare, and potentially deadly, event. He was in surgery for HOURS and they wound up having to remove part of his intestines. When he came out of surgery, they honestly didn't know if he was going to survive or not. It was a very tense time. Ultimately he began to improve. He was being fed through tubes and IVs because his digestive system was completely shut down. After a full month in the hospital, he finally went home to his wife and 3 kids last week, but still has a long road to full recovery.
My younger sister and her husband are on a 5-week European vacation to celebrate her retirement. They started in Germany, then went to Switzerland, and are now in Italy. They are having a marvelous time and the pictures she sends back are absolutely breathtaking! They are both morning people, so they are able to get out early in the day before the crowds get really bad, which is perfect for them.
My brother-in-law had to have emergency surgery on his eye because a shunt they put in some years back for his glaucoma came un-fastened and worked its way out until it was pushing through his eyeball! Apparently it was incredibly painful, but the surgery was successful.
I was able to see my ENT and am now on another round of antibiotics for this stubborn sinus infection. He says if this round of drugs doesn't kick it, he'll want to do a CT scan of my sinuses so he can see what is going on in there, and possibly do the roto-rooter surgery again. Ugh.
September was a month of medical dramas on many fronts impacting many people in my family. It was exhausting and scary at times. I'm hoping now that my nephew is home, my brother-in-law's eye has been repaired, my ankle is getting twice a week physical therapy, my sinus infection is being battled with antibiotics again, and Ray's procedures are getting scheduled that October will be a bit less dramatic and a bit more mundane. But whatever October may bring, I hope it brings me the opportunity to see all of you!
