Welcome to the home page of Tallahassee Area Mensa!

Tallahassee Area Mensa a local chapter of the High IQ Society, American Mensa. The Tallahassee area serves Florida from the Apalachicola River east through Taylor County including part of Madison County and even a bit of Dixie County. Our area is also the only area in all of Florida, Region 10 of American Mensa, to include a portion of Georgia. For a full view of the area we cover, visit our map.

Interested in joining Mensa? The only qualification for membership is a score at or above the 98th percentile on an approved IQ test. There are two different ways you can join. One is by submitting evidence of scores from any of a number of approved intelligence tests that you have already taken, or you can take the Mensa Admission Test. For more information about qualifying to join, visit the Join Mensa page.

Robin's Roost - rest your feathers!

Welcome to 2022! As of this writing, the omicron variant is making its presence known in staggering numbers. Fortunately, while it appears to be highly contagious, it also appears to be a bigger problem for the upper respiratory tract rather than the lungs. From what I hear, more children are being impacted by this variant than the prior ones, time will tell what long-term effects, if any, the children may have from it. I think we are all virus-weary at this point. Last year one of my sisters was planning her first-ever visit to see me and she cancelled her plans because of the pandemic. We hoped she would be able to make it down this year, but omicron has caused her to change her mind and she is not going to come down again this year. I am very disappointed, but I also completely understand her reluctance to travel and stay in hotels on the road.

My holidays were very busy and a lot of fun. I had out of town company as well as in-town company gather for Christmas dinner, and we had a feast. I took the week between Christmas and New Year's off, the first big block of time off I've had from work in well over a year and it was fabulous! I was able to have time to relax as well as get things done around the house. Now I am slowly putting away all the Christmas decorations and returning the house to "normal". I plan to have the last things up until 12th night, my own personal Christmas tradition to keep some of the decorations up for the full 12 days of Christmas.

With our election cycle completed, it is time to hold the first ExComm meeting of our newly-elected officers. Since we are going to enjoy a group-sponsored dinner at Osaka, we will hold our ExComm meeting there in conjunction with the dinner. If you have any issues you wish to bring before the committee or have any suggestions for upcoming events, please feel free to join us at Osaka and share your ideas with the group. The dinner at Osaka will be group-sponsored for the member and one guest, the meal will be covered, but any appetizers, alcoholic drinks, and deserts will be excluded. We have been to Osaka several times pre-pandemic and the event is always well-attended, so please be sure to RSVP if you plan to attend and let me know how many people will be in your party so we can plan accordingly for both seating and cost.

We will also return to the movie event this month with a bring a flick and then we'll pick movie event. You can find all of the details on the calendar page. With the omicron variant still on the rise, there is a possibility the host may wish to cancel, so please keep an eye on the web site and your emails for updates to events.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, your new year celebration was joyous, and that 2022 brings us all more social time and less pandemic.

Robin
